Hey!! Wheres the art filling?

     Hello fellow artist and crafters,
I know I know. Where is the art? Well what some of you probably didn't know about me is that I also refinish just about all of my furnature. That's right. I sew, paint, sand, decorate, hammer, rewire, and design. Haha. Right now I'm in the middle of making over me and my husband's master bedroom. I will be refinishing two different odd and ends tables to match our previous dresser. I just got done wiring up some brushed nickle metal lamps with new electrical work and Edison bulbs. I'm in the process of putting new fabric on the lamp shades. Yes you can actually do that. With a few touches here and there and a surpise for the headboard you guys are sure to be amazed with creativity. I will post pictures when I'm done. Oh and did I mention this whole makeover cost me less than $50!!! Yea I'm that good at antiquing and yard sale bargining.

Well until next time try to stay positive and dry. Don't let the April showers ruin your may flowers. Haha

God bless and love ya lots,

Kallie

Fruit for the Market

Hello gentle viewers,

So It is winter. Cold, boring, and frigid. It's that time of year when we all get cooped up inside because of the weather. Well I was not about to let the cold weather and being sick from the flu get me down. So as I am still waiting to hear back from VCU about my graduate application, I decided to create some commercial art. Artwork that I can sell at fleamarkets, beach boardwalks and farmers markets. You heard me right I said farmers markets. See let me explain, I came up with this idea of doing a couple of watercolors of different fruits and vegetables and selling them alongside the vendors. I figured people are there already to buy produce why not some cute watercolor artwork? So here is a photo of the first of many to come. The first one I did is of a grapefruit. I only spend about an hour per piece. That way I can sell them at a reasonable price.

I will post more pictures as I paint them.

Until we meet again! :)

Always,

Kallie

Chemical and Medical Side to Art

Hello World! :)

Ok so like I promised here are my process photos for my new encaustic piece. But first let me give you a little incite into what My concept is.

I am focusing on the chemical and medical organic side of things. I'm breaking out of the standard square box canvas and creating my own organic shaped forms for my canvas boards. I'm also working on building up the structure beneath the wax, to create not only visual interest but also to more accurately mimic the actual organs. It’s to represent not only the actual things themselves, but also the mentality of it all as well. For example, through the drilled holes of the ovaries you can see the chemical formulas of the medications for the disease. It forces the audience to interact with the artwork in order to truly see what the piece is about. You have to peer into the holes, and get close and intimate with it. Just like you have to observe and relate to me, to know what I am about to truly understand me.

Now that you understand what its about here are some process photos.

And the finished product with a close up view as well.

Well that's all for this week everyone. Don't let bad health or any other kind of problems get in your way. You can always meet or exceed you goals no matter what. You just have to have the determination and passion to try!

Love always,

Kallie

A look inside the studio.

Dear viewers,

Normally I would be apalled to let anyone see my mess of a garage work space, but seeing as we finally seperated my art supplies from the lawner mower, fishing rods, and etc. I figured I give you a little sneak peak into the studio we created for me. We finally put up some plastic sheeting to seperate the garage into two spaces. One for garage junk and the other for a workshop and art studio. So here is a quick look in to the studio of Kallie.

I didn't have alot of time to give ya full shot but it gives ya an idea.

I'm currently in the middle of a project for graduate school. I'll post pictures of my encaustic creation very soon!

Until we meet again! :)
Alway,

Kallie

Hello 2015! I'm Back!!! :)

Dear Art World,

Well It has been quite a while since I posted something. To be quite honest I kinda forgot I had a blog for my artist website. Ooops. Please don't be upset. :'( because have no fear Kallie is here. I'm back and I'm in action. I'm making artwork again in full force. I'm working on my portfolio for graduate school so I'm gonna be making progress photos and uploading them very soon. Also I have an Iphone now. Yes I know I joined the Iphone nation cult. But be glad because that means that I'm more connected to the cyber world than ever. After this post I will be downloading a blogger app. assuming there is one.... what am I saying. Its 2015 of course there is one. Haha. OK seriousness now. 2014 was a very rough year for me and I don't want 2015 to be a repeat so I order to start things off fresh lets keep art strong and in full force. Here is to new and good artwork and keeping my art blog updated not only for all you readers out there but also for myself. :D

Always,

Kallie

A New Year, a New Start!

I recently got married on October 12, 2012 to Theodore W. Nielsen. Me and my husband then relocated to Hampton Virginia in January of 2013. It is definitely a change of pace from Tennessee. No more mountains and tree filled hills, its now seagulls, beaches, and flood zones. Its a fresh start for not only my married life but also my life as an Artist.
Due to cramped apartment living conditions I have not been able to work on my artwork as much as I would have liked, but that didn't stop me from creating some more watercolors. In June we plan to relocate to a house where we will have a lot more space and a garage where I can work with my encaustics more properly.
Due to poor communication and unreasonable professors I did not get a letter of recomendation to my desired graduate school of choice. Lets just say the ONLY reason I didn't get accepted was because I didn't have letters of recomendation.
So Sisavanah if you are perhaps reading this it would be lovely if you could take 5 min and log onto the Virginia Common wealth University Site and write a quick letter of recommendation for me. It would be splendid considering I'm not going to give up this easy. Seeing as I transferred universities during college and all my other professors have retired and apparently fell of the face of the earth it is kinda important. Haha.

In other news I hope to get my teaching license soon and will perhaps get a local job teaching. K-12. The K-12 teaching is not exactly what I had in mind but it is my fall back job after all. With all this free time in between college and graduate school I plan to make good use of my Time. I will continue to make artwork that is of my liking and possibly some commercial pieces to sell to the general public.

Well tata for now. You will be seeing me soon! Art is my life and that will never change!

My senior show! Can you believe it? The time has came and gone already. The semester is almost over and I have been totally neglecting my blog. I guess that is believable when you have as hectic of a schedule as I do. So much has happened but quite honestly today isn't enough time to fill you in on everything so I will let the pictures to the talking for me! Hope you enjoy!

Here are Photos of my Pieces in the Show.....

And here is photos of the Gallery.....

A New Year for Art

So I have been quite behind on my posting of artwork and process. You have to excuse me and my random sickness and surgery. They are starting to become more frequent... I sure hope I'm not getting worse instead of better. But I do know that I am getting better instead of worse as far as my artwork goes. So here is the first piece for the Spring Semester of Painting V. I will post more photos later as they come!
